Thought for the Week

What actions are you willing to take today to make your life richer, fuller and more meaningful?

Many years ago, photographs of the Cuyahoga Valley by award-winning, contemporary environmental photographer Robert Glenn Ketchum were on exhibit at the Akron Museum of Art. As part of the exhibit, Mr. Ketchum was available to talk about his work and passion for environmental photography.

When asked what made him the excellent artist he is he had a simple response. “When my friends see a beautiful sunset they say ‘that would be a great photograph.’ The difference is I go back to the car and get my camera.” Think about your own life. Who are you the most like the friends or the photographer?

It’s easy to talk about wanting situations to change, jobs and careers to be more satisfying, problems to be solved. Talk doesn’t create award winning photographs. Picking up the camera and using it does. Talk alone doesn’t create change in your life. Choosing to change and then taking deliberate action does.

You tell yourself and maybe even others that you want to live up to your full potential, secure a better job, have more fulfilling relationships. OK, now what? To borrow from Mr. Ketchum, are you willing to take the time and make the effort “to go back to the car” even when it’s inconvenient in order to secure your dreams?

It’s your life. What actions are you willing to take today to make it richer, fuller and more meaningful?
